MRSA Report: Infection control must be top priority

6.00.00am GMT Sat 26th Mar 2005

Commenting on the report by Doctors.net.uk, which showed that eight out of ten doctors believe the Government's new measures to tackle hospital superbugs will fail, Liberal Democrat Shadow Health Secretary, Paul Burstow MP, said: "It is no surprise that doctors are worried that the Government's gimmicks to tackle superbugs will fail. There are simply not the facilities to isolate patients to stop the spread, like they do in Holland."

Chris Coleman added: "Patients deserve clean wards where they can be protected from infections. At the moment, Government targets are making the situation worse, not better. Patients are be shunted from ward to ward and there is not enough time to clear beds and other equipment properly between patients."
