About the Forest of DeanThe Forest of Dean is a beautiful place with its stunning scenery and enchanting forest. It boasts a proud industrial past and many will know of the history of the freeminers. It is a welcoming place with both friendly local people and a pleasant, pretty landscape. It is also a haven for tourists, sightseers and those just wanting to get away from it all.
The Forest of Dean Parliamentary Constituency consists of that part of Gloucestershire which lies between the Severn and the Wye, covering the area of the Forest of Dean District and a small part of Tewkesbury Borough. It includes the towns of Cinderford and Coleford, bordering the ancient Forest itself, Lydney, on the Severn and Newent in the northern part of the Constituency. It covers over forty rural parishes and is one of the larger Parliamentary Constituencies in the Country. It was revised for the 1997 General Election, having previously been part of West Gloucestershire which at that time included an area to the north and west of the city of Gloucester. There are ten County Council divisions in the Forest of Dean and each of the Divisions elect one County Councillor. These Divisions are detailed below together with the District Council Wards and Parishes included within them. Liberal Democrats are active in all ten of the Divisions.
